With cellular home internet, placement is not a detail. Moving the router ten feet can be the difference between unusable and excellent.
Why rural placement is different
In town, towers are close and signal is abundant, so a router works nearly anywhere in the house. A testing method that works
Pick three or four candidate spots on different sides and floors of the house.
At each spot, let the router settle for two to three minutes so it re-registers.
